Unfortunately no. Research has shown that there is so much more to birth preparation classes than just hearing the content. The benefits of in-person classes, broken up into a series of classes, allows our brains to hear, digest, and process at a much deeper level. Because each class is designed to layer one on top of the other, each week the understanding of the content, the ability to ask questions, and the important component of developing muscle memory as coping techniques are learned and applied, that is simply irreplaceable. Then throughout the days between classes, there should be a few minutes of daily practice and application of skills learned, and the time to reflect on the content, and get ready to dive a little deeper in preparation for the birth of your labor. You would never take a shortcut preparing for any other big momentous event, like interviewing for your dream job, preparing to run a marathon, or mastering the big waves of Hawaii's North Shore. This is the time to embrace the education that can help you cross the finish line of the birth you desire. It takes mental fortitude, the ability to surrender 60 seconds at a time, a sense of humor, emotional agility, and physical preparedness. There is no substitute, and you will get out of it what you put into it. But it is so rewarding! And our in-person classes will also provide you with the camaraderie that leads to support and encouragement from your other "teammates" as you all learn, and laugh, and share imaginary high-fives, supporting each other across the finish line. Sometimes these friendships that are formed last a lifetime!

Trust me. Ignorance is NOT bliss. And that was bad advice. Childbirth education classes can help you understand the possible situations you may find yourself in, and help you feel confident making choices in each situation to help ensure a healthy delivery for you and baby. We go through various scenarios, and engage in meaningful discussions, because we know that the fear of something is often bigger than the reality. Once we understand it, we can neutralize it, taking away the power the subconscious effect can have on our labors. In essence we place context around all the unknowns and "get the elephant out of the room." If you have subconscious fears or anxiety, it can get in the way of a normally progressing labor, and we don't want your hard work being hindered in any way. Putting our head in the sand and not talking about it does not prevent unwanted things from happening. We are not "calling bad things in" by acknowledging concerns as some people would have you believe. You are an intelligent person, and you will empower yourself and your partner by knowing the truths that can surround birth, and being fully informed and prepared to make strong decision if the moment comes. You can trust yourself to handle the information, and you can prepare to be the hero in your own birth story because you educated yourself, and are now ready to do the work.

Yes, we do have several amazing educators who offer private classes whether in your home, or at the Birth Center. From Prenatal Childbirth Education Classes, to Breastfeeding Classes, Paced Bottle Feeding and Newborn Care. While we love the format and excitement of being back in person, we know that for a variety of reasons, some couples simply need personal classes over a much shorter time period. And we are here to help. However, if you are looking for classes not on our current schedule, we recommend the Birth Education Center in San Diego.
